TRACK OF THE WEEK 14/4/14

Run Tiger Run – Hummingbird

Run Tiger Run are a 4 piece indie rock/pop band from Liverpool. Luckily for me, I’m not a manc who hates scousers so it’s all good. This track has only been online for about a month, but I’ve known about them for over a year but I don’t know how. I think they must of followed me on twitter and that’s how I heard them. Also I managed to catch half of their set at X&Y…

Hmmm. Don’t know whether to rant or not. I just watched Hank’s (vlogbrothers) video about like girls not having to do stuff for the need to be attractive for men. Which has had me thinking. Personally, I’ve always known that (probably because guys aren’t attracted to me in general), but I’ve never dressed in any other way than how I want to because it’s me. I always think you should express yourself for yourself, not for anyone else. I’m usually garmented in converse, shorts and band top - it’s standard. But you know I’m growing up and I’ll be 18 next month so I’ve been buying new clothes when I can. I’m not a person who usually dresses up for college,  but today I wear a new skirt and top with my boots - and suddenly everyone is complementing me “you look really nice”. Obviously, that’s nice and shows that no one likes what I usually wear but that doesn’t really bother me. What bothers me is one of my best friends who’s a guy, who can often be condescending and he likes to think he’s fashion conscious and dresses nice obviously makes a comment. Yes he says I look nice, but “is there a reason for this?” and “ooo is there a man?”. Like, I know it’s not something I do every day but why does there have to be a reason, or a man, can I not just buy new clothes and wear them? And then he’s just a dick asking more questions. I don’t get it I get slagged off when I don’t dress up (he’s made comments before “is that actually what you’re wearing” kind of things) and now I can’t get a break if I fucking wear a skirt to college. I dress up for parties and that so I don’t see why this is an issue. And I also heard an annoying girl say to someone else behind me after saying I look nice “She actually looks really nice” but in like a “this has never happened ever I’m shocked” kind of way. I know this rant is ridiculous because I’m moaning about getting a compliment but I just don’t understand how me wearing a skirt suddenly means I look nicer than usual. I’m just not like that. Now I don’t feel good wearing what I usually wear in a way. Don’t know how I feel. Feeling weird about my friends at the moment. Sorry tumblr you deserve better posts than this.

Jubilee Courts – Room With A View

I’ve got this annoying habit of when I see like a review of a band I want to listen to, or someone mentions a band on twitter or a band follow me I’ll just take a screenshot so my photos ends up full of bands and artists waiting for me to listen to. A few days ago I finally got round to actually doing some listening (I’m only half way through) but so far the only…

TRACK OF THE WEEK 31/3/14

Dark Bells. Female fronted alternative psychedelic rock duo from Sydney, now based in London. Standard. Sort of new single In Head is brimming with reverb ridden guitars and silky vocals that melt your being. As friends of mine will know, I’m not an overall fan of the female voice except for a select few but the tone of Teneil Throssell’s voice perfectly accompanies Dark Bells’ shoegaze appeal.

I…

Curb – So High

Okay. I’m sorry. I’m writing this an hour before it goes up as I always post at midday on a Monday, and I’ve been very busy. I’m also sorry because it’s another Birmingham band. But then again, I’m also not sorry.

This track was put up about a month ago on Soundcloud and I totally forgot about it until now so when it came up next to another track I was considering for this weeks…

Jaws – Think Too Much, Feel Too Little

YES JAWS ARE BACK. My main boyz with a bangin new tune for 2014. Sorry I’m just excited, Jaws are still the best “new” band I know, even though they’re not very new to me. I’ve seen them live far too many times and I’m still begging for a friend to get the train to Preston to see them with me again. Their debut album will be out this year too, which is mega…

Thumpers – Galore

I’m absolutely baffled at how this band are remaining seemingly underground. This “alt-pop duo”, as Wikipedia describes them,  have already supported bands such as Two Door Cinema Club, Everything Everything, Chvrches and Kwes and drummer John Hamson Jr previously worked with Noah & the Whale and Friendly Fires. What a line up, I’d go to that festival any day. With this kind of…

Catfish and the Bottlemen – Kathleen

I mentioned this band in last week’s post so you may think you don’t need to read this but Kathleenis Catfish and the Bottlemen’s rockin’ NEW single and it’s just great.  I really do think Catfish may have discovered the essential formula to make great indie rock songs. You may think I’m being over dramatic or just throwing out compliments but it’s genuinely…

Little Comets - The Gentle EP

Little Comets – The Gentle EP

I wanted to write a post straight away when Little Comets started putting new music up onto the good ol’ tinternet (as people think we call it up north) but I decided to resist until the EP release date. This EP is Rob really singing about topics that he feels passionately about and I love that. I went to see Little Comets at Manchester Club Academy a week or two ago and they were excellent as…
